Well I bought a immaculate 96 bass Weltmeister with 11 Treble Registers and 5 bass, from the well known ebay seller in Bulgaria.

It arrived in 7 days with a weekend in between and was packaged very very well. Upon a first play I identified a issue with the "B" below middle "C" it played perfectly on the bellows out but sounded horrible on the compression stroke with a vibration and very flat, this was only on several of the couplers.

Contacted the seller and they said perfect when it left us, damaged in transit by the courier.

My heart fell through my boots at this point!

Anyway as I'm in a Rural area and 200miles away from anywhere who could take a look, I phoned Birmingham Accordions and spoke to Mitchell who had a listen over the phone and gave me some info on how to fix it!

Turned out after I removed the reed blocks it was a read lifting up on the compression stroke from its retaining wax. Most likely in transit with the old harder wax breaking away from the reed possibly from a bump/vibratation by the couriers

After removal and a rewax of the offending reed and a refit of the reed blocks and Treble case to the bellows, all was well on a run through of the treble and the registers.

Many thanks to Birmingham Accordions, a drink will be in the post next week Mitchell.

Well another week brings yet another problem.

Its looking like to sort out the accordion I'm going to have to strip the whole thing and rewax the entire accordion, I cant keep pace with all the reed block errors and old wax.

when done its being traded for a new instrament, I cant be doing with all the work and have now lost heart in it.

shame but a warning here that some may be ok off ebay others may be more trouble and expense than they are worth

Not to be repetitive , but purchasing a used accordion on Ebay is not the best place to go. It`s not for amateurs. When you buy off Ebay it`s most often a roll of the dice . You need to know Exactly what you are buying and then assume the item isn`t as good as advertised unless you are familar with the seller . And being able to perform any necessary repairs yourself makes all the differences in the world.

Don't be too hasty with getting a new accordion. Once you do that overhaul you will have a nice accordion. The person you bought it from probably knew exactly what was wrong with it and that is why he put it on ebay. I hope that you did not pay too much for it. But It may be worth the overhaul by a professional. They are not cheap but neither is a new accordion. Every single accordion I buy on ebay requires an overhaul. Thats how I get them so cheap.
