TOPIC: good repair shop near western MA?

good repair shop near western MA? 3 months, 3 weeks ago #5766

I finally have some money set aside to have my accordions worked on.I have four zon-rio accordions, two model 32S and two 32M that have a few notes in obvious need of some leather and tuning. I usually play the S models when I play out. I'm in massachusetts, but don't mind shipping it out if needed to get top quality workmanship.I've looked on the internet. Some places list a flat basic fee, plus additional charges depending on what is needed, and also list fluff services like light polishing etc. I don't care what my box looks like. It's a workhorse and I just need it to perform. Could someone recommend a quality repairman?

Thanks Steve. I appreciate your kind words. I have gained a lot of repair experience this past year and my confidence level is up. I won`t ever be as good as some of the great accordion repair guys out there since I started too late in the game but I CAN do a good job fixing most of the usual problems and save the local players the expense of having to ship their accordion out , not to mention more down time and worry over possible shipping damages.
I just finished repairing 3 boxes brought in on sa****ay.
One was dropped and split open at the corner, reeds blocks floating around.
I even encountered (first time for me) a reed with a split in it. I replaced it with a good used one I had kicking around in an old reed block and tuned it to a nice match.
These guys that play Cajun , Tex Mex , and Cahunto play hard.

Well, I visited Geo, and he is a wonderful guy. He fixed my two zon-rio accordions and they are both playing great. His price was very reasonable. He also encouraged me to jump in and start learning to do repairs, and gave me an old reed block to practice on. I would highly recommend him to anyone and if I had a $20,000 accordion, I would trust it in John's able hands.More than just finding a repair guy, I gained a new friend. Thank you John.

Many thanks for your kind words also Tony. I enjoyed working on your Zon Rio`s. They are of a very good quality and a pleasure to work on. Great sounding reeds in both units.
I`m looking forward to listening to you play at mass MOCA in North Adams.
I was very impressed with your talent and playing ability and I want to hear more. You are one of the few exceptionally good players in the area.
