Hi, I just got in this nice accordion, it had some ruff treatment during transit but I seem to have sorted some of the problems but I have one bass button that is out of tune. It's the B "bass" only,
the B chord, minor, seventh etc etc is good, and only on the push is the B bass out of tune. It's fine on the bellows pull. I've checked the reed blocks for alignment and tightness, also the reeds and leathers all look good. I can't understand why the B bass is out of wack on the push only.
The counter bass B note and the B note below Ab are also out on the push only.
Any thoughts from some of you pros would be appreciated.

Hello. Every reed is double sided, that is, there are 2 reeds for every note. One side sounds on the push while the leather covers the other side preventing its sounding; and the other side sounds on the pull while the other leather prevents the first side from sounding.

Your reed on the "push" is out of tune or has a tiny bit of debris caught in the gap making it sound out of tune. Careful cleaning of the gap around the reed will likely solve your problem. If indeed it is out of tune, careful and parsimonious filing of the EDGE of the reed (not scratching of the centre) will correct it. File the top half edge of the reed to sharpen the pitch (ie. you are making the top half lighter to vibrate faster) or the bottom half edge of the reed to make it heavier on top and thus vibrate slower.

You need to isolate which side of the 2 reeds is out of whack. Do this by taking a piece of cotton batten (aka bunting) or the stuff that comes out of the top of pill bottles to us regular folks, and place it between ONE reed and its block to prevent its sounding. Then you know which reed you are dealing with. Do first one the the other.

You can do this !

Best

JP

Hey thanks, tomarrow I will remove the bass end again and follow your advise. I can't imagine this is too much of a problem, I just hope the offending reed is on the outside rather than inside the reed block. The B reed is the largest reed set on the end of the block.
Thanks again

Take off the bass cover and check the springs on the tension bars, one of them could have got knocked out of postion, if so its a easy fix.
